U13AA Girls Division Pool-Based Format Information

The Nova Scotia Soccer League has adopted a two-phase format for the U13AA Girls division to provide meaningful developmental competition for all eight (8) teams entered, while establishing the top four (4) teams for Provincial Championships in accordance with the Soccer Nova Scotia Competitions Handbook, Section 4.3.1.1. In alignment with Canada Soccer Grassroots Standards, no scores or standings will be recorded at the U13 age group during the regular season. Competitive standings will only apply during the pool play phase used to determine Provincial qualification, in accordance with the 2026 NSSL Summer Handbook (Section 6.6 - Removal of scores and standings at U13 divisions).

Update - City U13AA Girls Withdrawal: Following the original schedule release, City U13AA Girls have withdrawn from the AA division. The playoff format has been restructured from three pools of three to two pools of four teams to make the most of the remaining eight teams while minimizing schedule disruption. As a result, the season now consists of 16 total games per team rather than the originally planned 18.

Phase 1 - Regular Season (Double Round Robin - 13 games):

All eight (8) teams will attempt to play every other team twice, for a total of thirteen (13) games per team. No scores or standings are recorded during this phase, consistent with Canada Soccer Grassroots Standards. The focus is on developmental play, repeated exposure to all opponents, and balanced competition across the division.

Phase 2 - Pool Play (Single Round Robin - 3 games):

From August 15th, the division is split into two pools of four (4) teams. Each team plays every other team in their pool once, for a total of three (3) pool games per team.

Pool A:
Halifax County United U13AA Girls
South Shore United U13AA Girls
VU U13AA Girls
NNU U13AA Girls

Pool C:
UDFC U13AA Girls
Suburban FC U12 Academy Girls
CAPERS Academy U13AA Girls
Suburban FC U13 Academy Girls

Season Summary:

  • 13 regular season games (double round robin vs entire division, no scores or standings) + 3 pool games (single round robin vs own pool, from August 15th) = 16 games per team.
  • Standings & Provincial Qualification:
Only pool play games count toward divisional standings. Standings are subject to the 2026 NSSL Summer Handbook - the top two (2) teams from each of the two pools qualify for Provincial Championships, for a total of four (4) qualifying teams.
    • Determination of Standings (within each pool):
Standings within each pool will be determined in accordance with the 2026 NSSL Summer Handbook, Section 6.2 - Determination of Standings, using the following tiebreaker sequence:
      • 6.2.1 Most Points
      • 6.2.2 Head-to-Head Record
      • 6.2.3 Goal Difference in all games played in pools (maximum goal differential of 5 goals per match)
      • 6.2.4 Fewest Goals Against in all games played in pools (maximum goal differential of 5 goals per match)
      • 6.2.5 Fair Play Record
      • 6.2.6 Coin Toss
Note: Section 6.2.2 Head-to-Head Record does not apply in this comparison, as second-place teams from different pools will not have played common opponents.
